Clinical Negligence Compensation Claims Against Orthopaedic Surgeon

Clinical negligence solicitor, Mike Clarke reports on the avalanche of medical negligence claims being made against a Yorkshire based orthopaedic surgeon

Mr Manjit Bhamra, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon working for Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is currently the subject of over 100 medical negligence lawsuits, following operations he carried out at hospitals in Rotherham, Wakefield and Goole.

Rotherham hospital management admitted that they had already paid out well over £1,000,000 in compensation in respect of 13 clinical negligence claims following operations Mr Bhamra carried out there from 2005-2007.

Now another 90 medical negligence claims have been made, involving hip, knee, shoulder and elbow operations carried out by Mr Bhamra, not only at Rotherham, but also at Pinderfields and Goole.

Most medical professionals can expect to be the subject of complaints at some time in their working lives (and it is by no means the case that all such complaints are justified or upheld) but it is unusual for one surgeon to be the subject of so many complaints and legal actions.

The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which has employed Mr Bhamra since 2008, stated,

We monitor the practice of all our surgeons using a range of measures. We currently have no cause for concern about any aspect of Mr Bhamra's practice.”
